Masking...I'm not talking about the kind of masking for keeping illness away. In fact, the type of masking I'm talking about may make you feel poorly sometimes. I'm talking about the masking the neurodiverse engage in when they feel like they need to to adjust to fit in with family, work, friends, or society.
Great! You've been diagnosed as having autism or ADHD. Now what? A diagnosis can be a sigh of relief followed by a lot of questions. Maybe you even feel a little stuck.
We all have different ways we express happiness and other emotions. And, for the neurodiverse that can lead to their emotions being misinterpreted. Understanding communication styles and having different ways to express yourself can help minimize misinterpretation and reduce friction caused by miscommunication.
